'A Notch Higher' RJ Balaji On Tamil Remake Of 'Badhaai Ho'; Film Releases This June

RJ Balaji explains that because they have veteran actors of the Tamil Film Industry on board, the "Tamil film will be better than the Hindi original".

Writer-Director RJ Balaji is gearing up for a hattrick with his next release Veetla Vishesham. In the Tamil remake of the hit Hindi film Badhaai Ho, Balaji has adapted the story to the liking of the regional audience. Balaji who was planning on making a sequel to his film Mookuthi Amman, says the plot of the two films were similar and he was also offered to direct the remake.

He merged his genius with the existing film thus creating Veetla Vishesham which stars veteran actors from the Tamil Film Industry. The film stars Sathyaraj, Urvashi and KPAC Lalitha, along with RJ Balaji and Aparna Balamurali among others.

In an interview, the director was asked whether the casting of veteran actors was conscious for the film, the director to which said, "we didn’t need a star to carry the film forward so yes, it was a conscious decision. Sathyaraj, Urvashi and KPAC Latha have a fantastic body of work, are extremely talented and have great comic timing too. In fact, I believe that the Tamil film will be better than the Hindi original because of the powerful actors we have on board. The Hindi film was great but this will be one notch higher."

Like the original film, this Tamil comedy is centred around a middle-aged couple who discover they are expecting a third child despite having grown-up kids. Being cognizant of the local sensibilities Balaji has added and eliminated scenes including the climax. The director speaking to FirstPost said, "We have added on a seven to eight-minute climax scene that is not part of the original film and this will be one of the highlights of the film.

The comedy film was co-directed by NJ Saravanan and music was composed by Girishh Gopalkrishnan and cinematography by Karthik Muthukumar. Balaji in his interview also elucidated on his struggle with the Censor Board and getting a U certificate for the film. And added that the cast and crew have tried their best to entertain the audience and that he's certain the film will be well-liked.

Veetla Vishesham Release

Veetla Vishesham has been produced by Boney Kapoor, Romeo Pictures and Zee Studios and hits theatres on 17 June.
