After Darlings' Success, Here Are 8 Upcoming Films Expected To Release On OTT

While movies like Gangubai Kahthiwadi, The Kashmir Files, and Bhool Bhuliyaa 2 made good profits at the box office, so many movies fell flat with moviegoers in theaters. The failure of Bollywood movies in theatres, starting with Bachchhan Paandey to Shamshera and the most recent, Laal Singh Chaddha, which is reportedly a flop, has created a panic mood around them. On the other hand, other films, including Gehraiyaan, Badhaai Do, A Thursday, Jalsa, Good Luck Jerry, and the most recent Darlings, chose a direct OTT release and did fairly well in terms of business.

In the approaching months of September and October, blockbuster movies like Brahmastra, Vikrant Vedha, Ram Setu, and Thank God will be released in theaters. These films will be followed by Drishyam 2, Bhediya, Cirkus, Bhaijaan, Adipurush, and Pathaan in the months ahead. Recent reports indicate that several additional movies that were supposed to hit theatres this year are now choosing OTT releases. Reportedly, films like Govinda Naam Mera, Bloody Daddy, Mission Majnu, Freddy, Laxman Uttekar's next with Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, Action Hero, and Doctor G might opt for a direct-to-digital premiere if they get the right price.

Babli Bouncer

Babli Bouncer stars Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead role, and Saurabh Shukla, Abhishek Bajaj, and Sahil Vaid in other pivotal roles. The film is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, and Bhatia will be seen as a female bouncer. On September 23, 2022, Babli Bouncer will be released directly on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar.

Tiku Weds Sheru

Tiku Weds Sheru stars Avneet Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles. The film is Kangana Ranaut's maiden production after the launch of her production house in 2020. The film is reportedly scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video. However, the release date has not been announced by the makers.

Khufiya

Khufiya is an upcoming spy thriller film based on Amar Bhushan's novel Escape to Nowhere, it stars Tabu, Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Alexx O'Nell. The film is written, produced, and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. As announced by the makers and the OTT platform, the film is scheduled to be released on Netflix. The film's release date is yet to be announced by them.

Govinda Naam Mera

Govinda Naam Mera stars Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani. The film, produced under Karan Johar's banner, Dharma Productions, is directed by Shashank Khaitan. Earlier, Govinda Naam Mera was preparing for its anticipated theatrical debut. The film may, however, skip theatres entirely and instead go straight to an OTT release, according to the most recent sources. There's no official confirmation from the makers, but the reports claim that the film is not finding a feasible theatrical window in an already packed Bollywood calendar over the next few months, and if they get the right price for OTT streaming, the makers will opt for it. While the fans are waiting for its release, we will soon share the release schedule once the makers reveal it.

Freddy

Freddy stars Kartik Aaryan, Alaya F, and Jeniffer Piccinato in the lead roles. It will be an unconventional dark romantic thriller about obsession and love. Kartik Aaryan who has already done an OTT film Dhamaka in 2021, revealed that the film is under production and it is being done keeping in mind his OTT audience. The film is directed by Shashanka Ghosh and is said to be directly released on the OTT platform.

Bloody Daddy

Bloody Daddy stars Shahid Kapoor in the lead role and is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Bloody Daddy is anticipated to be a remake of Tomer Sisley's Nuit Blanche (Sleepless Nights), a 2011 French film. In the action thriller, Kapoor will play a caring father who must escape the mafia to protect his child. According to recent sources, the producers have chosen to skip a theatrical debut in favour of an exclusive Voot Select premiere. If these reports are to be believed, they have decided to release the film in the last quarter of the year.

Mission Majnu

Mission Majnu, a spy thriller film stars Sidharth Malhotra and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. It is directed by Shantanu Bagchi and is described as the untold story of India's greatest covert operation. The film was announced in December 2020 and was scheduled for theatrical release on 10 June 2022, but got delayed. According to the latest reports, the film might opt for a direct-to-digital premiere if the makers get the right price. 

Doctor G

Doctor G is a social comedy film that stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles and Shefali Shah and Sheeba Chaddha appear in supporting roles. It is directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and was scheduled to release in June 2022 but got delayed. The latest reports claim that the film will also opt for an OTT release later this year.
