Upcoming film releases: For better or worse, the year 2021 has almost come to an end. As the country is recovering from the harrowing damages of the pandemic, the movie theatres are also coming back to life. Many filmmakers came up with announcements about the theatre releases of their films and we are all for it.
However, some of us still need some time to get used to sitting among strangers in dark to watch hours of cinema. Thanks to the OTT platforms still coming up with fresh releases and many lined up for the upcoming months.

Meenakshi Sundereshwar:

Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani starrer has been making buzz because of its unique plot exploring modern marriage. The romantic comedy will narrate the struggles of a married couple who are separated by long-distance. Meenakshi and Sundereshwar got into an arranged marriage. Soon Dassan's character moves to Bangalore as a gets a job and Malhotra's character is an engineer working at an MNC and stays with her in-laws. The couple stays connected on video calls and messages. It would be interesting to watch if the marriage survives the distance. The film has been produced by Karan Johar and has been directed by Vivek Soni. The same director helmed the films such as Hasee Toh Phasee, Shandaar and Trapped.
Eternals

Academy award-winning director Chloe Zhao has for the first time directed a superhero film. This Marvel movie could not be more star-studded. It has Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Lia McHugh, Lauren Ridloff Barry Keoghan and Richard Madden among many others. According to the comics, Celestials created superhumans and called them Eternals who lived a secret life and guided the human civilisations on earth. The film has already been released in other parts of the world but Indian fans are yet to see it in the theatres.
Bunty Aur Babli 2

Bollywood's one of the most famous movies of its time starring Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan is coming back with its sequel. Except for this time, Bachchan's role will be played by Saif Ali Khan and the newcomer duo, Siddharth Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh will join the cast. The film has been directed by Varun Sharma and Adithya Chopra and Yash Raj Films are bankrolling it. The makers recently released the trailer earlier this week in which the audience could see glimpses of the new con couples.
No Means No

Directed by Vikash Verma has been shot in Poland and will narrate the story of a young boy who travels to the country to participate in a skiing competition and ends up falling in love. In one of his interviews, the director said, "My upcoming action-thriller is an ode to strong female characters and women’s empowerment in terms of everyone having to respect a women’s No, which means No." Gulshan Grover, Sharad Kapoor, Deep Raj Rana, Milind Joshi, Kat Kristian, Nazia Hussain (niece of actor Sanjay Dutt), Anna Ador, Jersey Handzlik, and Anna Guzik, Natalia Bak, Slywia Czech and Pawel Czech amongst others are cast in the film.

Superstar Rajnikanth is coming up with his big release this diwali. The film is set in a village and will essay the story of a brother-sister duo. Keerthi Suresh will be Rajnikanth's sister in the film. Another popular actor Nayanthara has been cast in the film who will play the love interest of the male lead. The film's digital rights are owned by Sun Next of the Sun group along with Netflix. Udhayanidhi will oversee the Tamil theatrical distribution rights of the film. It has been directed by Sivatha.
Gangubai Kathiawadi

The film finally got made after many delays and halts in the shooting schedule during the time when India was dealing with the harshest effects of the pandemic. Alia Bhatt will be seen playing the role of Gangubai Kathiawadi, a madame in yesteryear's Kamathipura area of Mumbai. The film's plot has been derived from the book titled Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by Hussain Zaidi. Jayanthilal Gada has produced the film and Sanjay Leela Bhansali is its director.

Actor Alia Bhatt's first venture as a production house owner will tell the story of a mother-daughter duo living in the middle-class neighbourhood of Mumbai. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has collaborated with Bhatt in the film's production. As per reports, the film has been touted as a dark comedy starring Shefali Shah along with Alia Bhatt.
The film’s teaser came with a warning that read, “Offending women can be very dangerous for your health.” Alia Bhatt's production house Eternal Sunshine is behind the project.

The actor has reportedly undergone hardcore training under the guidance of Raj's friend and cricketer Nooshin Al Khadeer. The much-awaited film will narrate the journey of the cricketer starting from her early days when she began her sports career.
