Toofaan Releasing Today: After getting its release stalled multiple times due to the pandemic, the sports drama Toofan will release today on Friday, July 16.

The Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal Thakur starrer film will have an OTT release on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. The film is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who has also directed the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, also starring Farhan Akhtar in the main role.

Toofan revolves around the life of a street-fighter who turned into a national-level boxer and gets another chance to turn around his professional boxing career. It tells the story of Aziz Ali also known as Ajju Bhai, played by Farhan Akhtar who is a gangster from Dongri, Mumbai. He goes on to become a national-level boxer and looks up to Muhammad Ali. Mrunal Thakur plays the role Dr Ananya who motivates Aziz to achieve his dream.

Toofaan Releasing Today: Cast

The lead actors in Toofan are Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal Thakur. Thakur was previously seen in the television show Kumkum Bhagya from 2014 to 2016. She made her big screen debut with  Love Sonia  in 2018 and also appeared in the biographical drama Super 30 along with Hrithik Roshan. The actor was also seen in the 2019 film Batla House. Talking about working in the film, Thakur said that it is a dream come true for her as she always wanted to work with Akhtar.

The film features Paresh Rawal in the role of Akhtar's coach, while Supriya Pathak Kapur, Dr Mohan Agashe, Hussain Dalal and Darshan Kumar are also present in important roles. Akhtar, along with Mehra, and Ritesh Sidhwani have jointly produced the film.

However, before the release of the film, the hashtag #BoycottToofan was trending on Twitter. A section of social media users demanded a ban on the film for allegedly spreading "love jihad" as the film has a love story between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman.
