The Rapist Trailer: The Konkona Sen Sharma led film, The Rapist's trailer has been released. An Aparna Sen directorial, the film is set to premiere at the Busan Film Festival, which is going to be held between October 6 and 15.

In The Rapist, Konkona Sen Sharma plays a criminal psychology professor in Delhi, who is sexually assault, and proceeds to fight the societal prejudices against the topic. It also stars Arjun Rampal and Tanmay Dhanania in lead roles. Arjun Rampal plays the role of a liberal. The film follows the three protagonists and how their lives get entwined because of the horrific incident.
Aparna Sen said that the film aims to look beyond the obvious crime and to explore how it affects survivors and perpetrators of the crime. According to her, it also goes into the alteration of one’s idealistic views when the truth hits them. She said that the “psychology” of the three protagonists is what mainly attracted her to the story, which also explores the inequalities in the social system giving rise to criminals.
She said the idea of The Rapist came to her around 15 years ago, when she wondered why men rape. They are not born rapists and go through all stages of development alike. When and how do these people become rapists? This is a question she could not answer then and still cannot. Nonetheless, she wanted to explore the idea through The Rapist.
The film also explores the debate surrounding the death penalty. The film will reflect her own ideas of how to deal with such people.
The Rapist is also nominated for the Kim Ji-Seok award, a prestigious award at the Busan Film Festival. Sen said the nomination means a lot to her, especially because she had been on the Jury of the festival many years ago, and also the fact that she had had the honour of meeting Kim Ji-Seok in person.
