Actor Gina Carano, who plays former Rebel Alliance soldier Cara Dune on Disney's hit show The Mandalorian, is not "currently employed" by Lucasfilm. The announcement was made by the production company's spokesperson after Carano's post on Holocaust caused outrage on social media. The controversial posts by Carano inferred that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.

The company also added that there are no plans for Carano to be associated with the agency in the future. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable," the spokesperson added.

Gina Carano was subjected to criticism recently when on Tuesday she shared several posts on contemporary political differences on her Instagram stories. “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,” Carano wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post.

“Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views," she added.

Soon, the actor was facing backlash online and the hashtag #FireGinaCarano started trending on social media.

Carano has been in news for all the wrong reasons these past few months. She was time and again criticised for mocking COVID-19 mask mandates, spreading conspiracies about the 2020 United States presidential elections, liking posts disparaging the Black Lives Matter movement, and deriding pronoun usage.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm intended to announce Carano as the star of her own Star Wars series but those plans were dumped following Carano’s tweets in November. She was criticised for mocking people who specify preferred pronouns when she updated her Twitter bio with “beep/bop/boop,” which she later removed. "They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw," sources said.

Gina Carano grabbed the spotlight as an MMA fighter competing in Strikeforce and EliteXC. After retiring from the MMA competition, she tried her luck in acting and made her debut in 2011 with Steven Soderbergh movie Haywire. She also acted in Fast & Furious 6 and Deadpool.

As per reports, she was in talks to play a vital role in the upcoming Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic show as well.
