The Kashmir Files OTT release time and date were announced by the makers of the film recently and the fans can't wait for it. The box office hit smashed all records with its theatrical release in March 2022 and became 2022's highest-grossing film.
Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files was screened at the 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India. At the closing ceremony of the festival, jury head, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid criticised Agnihotri's Hindi on stage, calling it 'propaganda'.
He said he was “shocked” and “disturbed” by the movie’s inclusion in the competitive section. “There were 15 films in the international competition — the front window of the festival. Fourteen out of them had cinematic qualities… and evoked vivid discussions. We were, all of us, disturbed and shocked by the 15th film, The Kashmir Files. That felt to us like a propaganda, vulgar movie, inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival,” Lapid said.

The movie was based on the 1990 exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from their homeland that forced them to live as refugees in their own country. The director of the film claimed that the story of the movie was based on the experiences shared by the Kashmiri Pandits themselves who survived the attacks. The movie featured Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, and Mithun Chakraborty in pivotal roles.

The Kashmir Files faced both, positive and negative sentiments from the audience. There was a section of people grateful that the movie decided to bring the sufferings and pain of the Kashmiri Pandits in front of the world which was kept hidden all along. However, there was also a section that felt that it demeaned a particular religion and showed it in a bad light. The movie also displayed questionable scenes related to the government and legal authorities of Jammu and Kashmir and India at that time and showed them as passive conspirers.
The movie has been a major subject of discussion in the political arena as well with the ruling party BJP supporting and acknowledging the sufferings of the Kashmiri Pandits and the opposing parties showing their discontentment.
Recently, the film was banned in Singapore as its contents could seemingly hurt the sentiments of a particular religious community and disrupt the peace in a religiously diverse country like theirs. The ban led to a Twitter face-off between Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and Vivek Agnihotri and Anupam Kher.
The Kashmir Files will be releasing on OTT platform Zee5 on May 13, 2022. The timing for the film has not yet been confirmed but it is likely to premiere at the usual release timings of Zee5. Usually, the OTT platform releases a new show or movie at the midnight of its scheduled release date. The timings are according to Indian Standard Time.
