The Illegal Cast: The 2019 Indian-American film The Illegal, which didn’t hit the screens due to the pandemic, was released on the digital platform Amazon Prime Video on March 23.
The English-language film starring Indian actors Suraj Sharma, Shweta Tripathi, Neelima Azeem, and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles, was earlier released across film festivals.
The Illegal won several awards such as the Special Award for Discovering India in the Mumbai Film Festival, Best Feature Critics Choice in the Vancouver South Asian Film Festival, along with the Best Film Jury Mention and Best Feature Audience Award in the DC South Asian Film Festival.
The Danish Renzu directorial narrates the dark side of the ‘Great American Dream’. The gritty realistic story of the film the harsh realities of the young migrants who aspire to find a better life in America. Suraj Sharma as the protagonist Hassan is forced to drop out of college to support his family and work as an undocumented worker.

Shweta Tripathi
The Indian actor Shweta Tripathi, who began her career teen show that aired on Disney Channel India, is popularly known for her role in the web series Mirzapur. She rose to prominence for her role in the Indian film Masaan. Tripathi’s performance in the film won her the Zee Cine Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the film The Illegal, the actor plays the role of the protagonist Hassan’s sister, Mahi, his strongest support system.
Neelima Azeem
The actor has been part of many big screen and television ventures ever since she made her debut in television in 1989. Neelima Azeem has featured in films such as Sadak, Sooryavansham and Ishq Vishk. Also, she is the mother of two Bollywood actors- Shahid Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.
Hannah Masi
Hannah Masi, a popular Hollywood actor, plays the love interest of Hassan in the film The Illegal. Previously, she featured in a rom-com titled Gala & Godfrey.
