The Handmaid's Tale is an Emmy-winning American TV series on Hulu which features the dystopian world created by author Margaret Atwood. The era is that of post Second American Civil War which is ruled by power greedy leaders and the society is divided into social classes. Pollution and sexually transmitted diseases dropped the fertility rate which led to the establishment of childbearing slavery, using fertile women of the lower class to act as handmaids. The show focuses on the story of one such handmaid for Commander Fred Waterford of Gilead, June Osborne, who was separated from her husband and daughter.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 5 Premiere Date

The fourth season ended with the murder of Fred Waterford by the hands of June and other Gilead survivors. However, June could not get away with such drastic actions. The leaders in power will come after June and she will be facing the consequences of her actions in the season as per the teaser that was released recently. One more thing that the audience is looking forward to is the role of Serena Waterford, Fred Waterford's widow whose true intentions will be revealed this season.

Serena Waterford presents herself as a grieving widow and is practically everywhere after Waterford's death. But this might be a power move to take control in her hands to take revenge on June and suggests that she might have been the villain all along. Well, that can only be confirmed after the release of the new season. The cast of season 5 is expected to have some familiar faces returning like O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella, Bradley Whitford and McKenna Grace alongside the regulars Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Ann Dowd and Samira Wiley.

The season is expected to have 10 or fewer episodes and is all set to premiere its fifth season on Hulu on September 14 2022. The season is also expected to focus on the follow-up of the original story by Atwood, The Testament but that is yet to be confirmed.
