The female lead in the Malayalam film was Nimisha Sajayan. It was a story about a newlywed woman who struggles to play the stereotypical role of what is expected from a wife. She is married to a man, played by Suraj Venjaramood, who is a teacher and is from a traditional and patriarchal family.

This Malayalam film flung open the labour division in the household and the hidden patriarchal idea behind what a woman's role in the household must look like. Something that comforts and provides a cushion to the men. It showed this through a simple room in the house, the kitchen. Who is expected to be in it? The time a woman spends there, amongst other things. It shows the injustice through what seems like a day to day activity- cooking.

Today, Sanya Malhotra shared a picture of herself with Kadav and Baweja with the caption, "So happy and excited to be a part of #TheGreatIndianKitchenHindiRemake (emojis) can't wait! #HarmanBaweja."

The same image was shared by Kadav, who wrote, "One of the best happenstance is coming across this wonderful set of people on a mission to tell a beautiful nuanced pan Indian story that every person in this country relates to. @sanyamalhotra_ is magic from the word go. I have tremendous love and gratitude that she is the face of such an important story and has such a deep understanding of the world around her."

In an interview with SheThePeople, Kadav talked about if her gender comes in a way as an obstruction in her art of storytelling. She said, "I think we are fortunate enough that right now nobody says it directly to your face that you are a woman, but you can feel that prejudice floating in the air a lot of times. When it comes to film direction you are working with a lot of people so by the law of averages there would be some of them who would not show it but would be sexist and you can feel that in the air, you can feel that in the interaction."

She added, "The only way to navigate it, which I have figured out over with time, is that hire the right team, build your army. Work with people who would not see you as male or female but just for your ideas."
