The Family Man 2 Anti-Tamil? Just a day after launch of its trailer The Family Man season 2 is now facing backlash on Twitter. A section of the netizens has started shaming the show's stars Samantha Akkineni, Manoj Bajpayee and directors Raj and DK, accusing the web series of depicting the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu in a negative light. They have denounced the series as "anti-Tamil".
The Family Man 2 marks the digital debut of Telugu star Akkineni, who plays Raji, the first grey character of her career. After the trailer surfaced online, people are not happy seeing Akkineni’s militant character being branded as a terrorist and many have also demanded a public apology for portraying the Tamil community as terrorists. The Majili actor had been roped in to play a terrorist leader and antagonist in this season. Her character will be fighting for an independent state for Ethnic Tamils, a spill-over of the 1983 conflict which stemmed in Sri Lanka where government forces and the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), who were in conflict.
One Twitter user claimed that the trailer depicts an unexpected coalition between ISI and LTTE rebels and attack their motherland Chennai. Another user claimed that they strongly condemned the series because they don’t accept LTTE as an extremist outfit. “Hollywood showed Russians and Cubans as mercenaries in their movies and created hatred against them. This is exactly these people are doing against Tamils,” tweeted Dr Mohammad Gaddafe.
Requesting @CMOTamilnadu , @mkstalin to look into this #Familyman2 matter which shows Eezham Tamils and TN in bad light. Former CM Madam Jayalalitha banned #Madrascafe for the same. Hope you also take a strong stand. #Familyman2_against_tamils @Samanthaprabhu2 @BajpayeeManoj

A red and white poster with Akkineni’s image with the bold words ‘Shame On You’ written on it is also doing the rounds on social media. Her co-actor Sharib Hashmi, who is reprising the role of JK Talpade, however, had earlier said that the second edition doesn’t have any content that can invite trouble. “I’m not worried at all. There’s nothing objectionable in the series.
The second season of the much-delayed show will premiere on June 4 on Amazon Prime Video. The trailer of the new season, released on Wednesday, shows Manoj Bajpayee reviving his role as Srikant Tiwari who works for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) while facing off the “new face of danger” while trying to save his married life.
