Sonali Bendre To Make OTT Debut With Web Series 'The Broken News'

Actor Sonali Bendre announced on social media that she will return to the screen after a nine-year hiatus with an upcoming OTT drama series, The Broken News. The show marks  Sonali Bendre's first foray into the world of OTT.

The Broken News will also star Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar in pivotal roles and is based on the famous 2018 British series Press.

Bendre shared the news on Instagram, saying she's "still processing that this is truly happening!"  She added, "It feels great to be back on set, back to the creative process, interacting with my co-actors and director... bringing a character to life," she added. I'm ecstatic to make my OTT debut with @zee5, with whom I've done so much and who feels like family. I've always loved the concept of this show and am so pleased with how it's turned out... I'm excited for you to see it."

The series is set in Mumbai and revolves around two rival news channels, 'Awaaz Bharati', an independent, ethical news channel, and 'Josh 24/7 News', which offers sensationalist and invasive journalism, according to the makers. The show's plot revolves around the encounters between the major characters as they search for news.

Vinay Waiku will direct the show that also features Indraneil Sengupta, Taaruk Raina, Aakash Khurana, and Kiran Kumar. The makers of the show are yet to announce a release date for the Indian adaptation of the popular British series.

Writer Mike Bartlett created and wrote the original show Press which explored the lifestyles of senior staff at two rival British newspapers. The original show was produced by BBC Studios.

Meanwhile, after taking a break from full-time acting in 2004, she began working in television, including as a judge on a variety of reality shows. In 2015, Bendre also starred in the television series Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh. Meanwhile, Bendre had a cameo appearance in the 2013 gangster drama Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara! She now appears in Dance India Dance Li'l Masters, an Indian reality show.
