At Thalaivi Trailer launch Kangana Ranaut praises the Southern film industry: During the Thalaivi trailer launch on March 23, actor Kangana Ranaut said that there might be nepotism but no groupism in the Southern film industry. She said, "There is no groupism and gang-ism in the South. They are very inclusive of outsiders. I hope to do many more films in the South"

Thalaivi trailer launch: Was sceptical about playing this role

Ranaut, who is also celebrating her birthday today, attended the trailer launch of her Thalaivi biopic, which is based on the life of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor J Jayalalithaa. Ranaut said that she was unsure about portraying the late film icon and politician on-screen since she had no clue about Tamil Nadu politics. "I'm not familiar with the politics in Tamil Nadu and so I was sceptical about playing this role."

Ranaut also praised the film's director AL Vijay and said, "He never made me feel bad or apologetic about my talent. It's very rare for a director to share such a respectful camaraderie with female actors."

Actor Samantha Akkineni praised the trailer and wrote on Twitter, "#ThalaiviTrailer is outstanding @KanganaTeamYou are the bravest, most daring and indisputably the most talented actress of our generation. #Vijay sir goosebumps stuff just goosebumps stuff. Can’t wait to witness this magic in the theatre."

Wishing Ranaut on her 34th birthday, actor Juhi Chawla wrote, "Kangana you are an OUTSTANDING actress .. ... a crazy , fearless , volatile , genius girl ..!!!!! Many Many Congratulations ..!!! May you use your limitless creative potential in a positive direction..!!! Happy Happy Birthday too."

On March 22, Kangana Ranaut won National Award in the Best Actress category for her performance in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Panga.

"I call myself Babbar Sherni cause I never cry I never give anyone the privilege of making me cry, don’t remember when I cried last but today I cried and cried and cried and it feels so good," Ranaut tweeted after the trailer launch. She had earlier revealed on social media that she had gained and then lost close to 20 kilograms of weight for this role within a span of a few months.
