Thalaivi Teaser Out: The teaser of Kangana Ranaut-starrer Thalaivi, a biopic on the actor turned politician Jayalalithaa, was released on the occasion of Jayalalithaa’s 73rd birth anniversary on Wednesday.
Ranaut herself took to Twitter to announce the release date. Her post includes a short teaser trailer for the film and the release date of 23rd April, 2021. The shoot of the film was completed in 2020.
Sharing the poster with her fans, Ranaut tweeted, “To Jaya Amma, on her birth anniversary Witness the story of the legend, #Thalaivi, in cinemas on 23rd April, 2021.”

Within less than 24 hours, the 25-second Thalaivi teaser reached 117.8K views and more than 11.2K likes.
Thalaivi is based on former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, who was an actress-turned-politician. Ranaut is essaying the lead role. She has been constantly sharing pictures from the sets, sometimes dressed in white-coloured cotton saree with a bindi (known to be Jayalalithaa’s signature look), to depict the journey and her transition from cinema to the world of politics.

According to reports, the 33-year-old actor had to go through a huge transformation to bring the leader alive onscreen. She reportedly gained 20 kg for the role. She had shared how her weight gain for the project and how learning Bharatnatyam for her role left her back severely damaged. The Judgementall Hai Kya actor had also revealed that she was struggling to lose the extra kilos. “I played the first super humangirl on Indian screen, thanks to my body a rare combination of dainty yet strong looking, in my 30’s I had to gain 20 kgs for ‘Thalaivi’ and do Bharatnatyam, it left my back severely damaged but no bigger gratification than to play a role to perfection,” Ranaut had tweeted in November last year.

Thalaivi also stars actor Arvind Swami who will be playing the role of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M G Ramachandran. Actor Madhoo will be playing the character of Janaki Ramachandran and other noted actors like Poorna, Jagapathi Babu, Samuthirakani, Jayasudha and Sathyaraj will be playing significant roles.
