In an interview with Film Companion South, Kangana shared that the decision to cast her in a lead role for a biopic could lose everything the filmmakers had, but if they are feeling confident about their casting decision, then there must be some merit to it.

Kangana said that she thought she was the worst casting for Thalaivi. When the screenwriter Vijayendra contacted Kangana and showed her some video clips of Jayalalithaa, Kangana was stunned.

The Director of Thailavi encouraged the actor to accept the role. Kangana also expressed that she faced several obstacles to play the Jayalalithaa's role.

She continued that in her 30s she had to gain 20-25 kgs of weight and had no idea how she would look after gaining the weight. She said that her head was suffused with stress and doubts about herself.

At this stage of her career, she had so much to lose, which made her doubtful about her decision. But some people gave a lot of confidence to her; she shared that Vijayendra belongs to a Telugu Industry, but his trust in Kangana's potential encouraged her to deliver satisfying results.

Kangana thought that people could get offended if an actor doesn't live up to their expectations. For the people of Tamil Nadu, their former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was a respected personality.
