Ten Things To Know About Huma Qureshi's Upcoming Series Maharani

Huma Qureshi is known for her performance-oriented roles. She is now all set to star in the upcoming Sony LIV series Maharani.

 It is a political drama and social satire set in Bihar of the '90s. Other than Huma Qureshi, the series also casts Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Pramod Pathak, Kani Kusruti and Inaam Ul Haq in the lead roles. The series is directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Dimple Kharbanda and Naren Kumar.

Here are 10 things we know about Maharani

1. The multi-season show will be streaming soon on Sony LIV. It marks a reunion of Qureshi and the Jolly LLB 2 director Subhash Kapoor, the creator of this series. It is also the directorial debut of Karan Sharma.
2. The teaser reveals that Qureshi's character Rani Bharti is the illiterate wife of the Bihar Chief Minister. When he falls sick, he announces her to be his successor. The question is if she will be able to survive this given the caste arithmetic, traditional satraps and the emerging voice.
3. Maharani is Qureshi's fourth web project. She made her debut in the OTT industry with Netflix's dystopian drama Leila. She later worked in Dibakar Banerjee's Freedom and Zack Snyder's international project Army of the Dead.
4. Talking to a leading daily, Qureshi claimed that the character of Rani helped her explore many layers as a performer and that it has been a delight to play the role.
5. Elaborating on her role, the actor revealed that she starts off as someone everyone knows and can relate to but what she becomes later is something only a few can aspire for.
6. Further, Qureshi said, "It has been a wonderful experience of working with such a talented cast and I can't wait for my my viewers to watch the series."
7. Unveiling the teaser of the series on April 9, SonyLIV tweeted, "A political drama set in Bihar of 90's. With it's caste arithmetic, traditional satraps and the emerging voice...will an illiterate woman survive this?"
8. As Huma Qureshi shared the teaser on her Instagram handle, she said, "Maharani teaser is here!! Finally sharing this labour of love...#Maharani...cannot wait to share more with you all..."
9. Qureshi also shared a few stills from the sets of the series and said, "While his party officials await the name of his successor, the unwell Chief Minister of Bihar announces his wife, Rani Bharti, as his successor. Can an illiterate woman survive this?"
10. The show seems to be inspired by what happened when in Bihar in the 90s then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav made Rabri Devi, his homemaker wife his successor. She served as the CM between 1997 and 2005.
