Rom-com franchise Tanu Weds Manu, starring Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan in lead roles managed to both rule the box office and gather a loyal fan following. Over the years, the audience has gotten curious about whether there will be a third-time film in the series anf they might have an answer soon.
The first film of the franchise was released in 2011, featuring Ranaut in the role of Tanu and Madhavan playing the role of Manu. Tanu is shown to be in love with someone else when her family decides to get her married to Manu. The matrimonial meetup does not go as planned for Tanu, who has taken pills and is unconscious believing that Manu would say no but the exact opposite happens. What follows is a will-she-won't-she tale peppered with snazzy dialogues and good music.
The sequel to the original film, also directed by Aanand L Rai explores was released in 2015. Tanu Weds Manu Returns features Ranaut in a double role and revolved around the dysfunctional married life of its lead couple who have contrasting personalities and expectations from each other.

On the tenth anniversary of the film, director Rai hinted at the possibility of having a third film in the franchise. He told the Quint, "Definitely the day we have a story. It all depends on the story. Like, Tanu Weds Manu Returns happened when we went for Raanjhanaa's first session of writing. That time Tanu Weds Manu Returns striked us, it never striked us before that."
Recently, reports have surfaced indicating that the third film might revolve around the character Tanu and Advocate Arun alias Chintu Kumar Singh, played by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in the second film. Singh falls for Tanu as she stays back home during a fight with Manu and approaches him to serve a divorce notice to her husband.
In an interview to a news portal, Ayyub said that the writer of the film, Himanshu Sharma is reportedly wanting to base the third film around Tanu and Singh. However, according to Ayyub, this is just an idea and nothing is confirmed yet.
