Sharmaji Ki Beti: Filmmaker Tahira Kashyap Khurrana took to social media on Thursday to announce that her long-pending project Sharmaji Ki Beti has finally found its lead actors. "Can’t believe it’s finally happening," Kashyap wrote on Twitter while sharing that her upcoming directorial venture, which deals with the subject of urban existence and conflicts, finally goes on the floor with stars Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher.
"Gratitude to all those people who are bringing my dream, the story so close to my heart to life. It’s too good to be true but I guess ‘winter always turns to spring’," Kashyap added in the post sharing details about the "heart-warming, slice-of-life comedy-drama about the modern Indian female experience".
Kashyap's feature film will focus on the lives of urban women, all with the common surname "Sharma", reads the statement, adding that this "relatable" and "multi-generational ensemble" film is about the modern, middle-class women, headlined by Bade Achhe Lagte Hain actor Tanwar, Badlapur star Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher, last seen in Anurag Kashyap's Choked.
Dutta also took to her Twitter handle to share the announcement, writing, "Lo ji! Announcing my next with immense pride!! #sharmajikibeti! Fab fab script directed by the supremely talented @tahira_k." This one is a lethal combo, she noted.
Kher also shared the announcement on Twitter, "Supremely excited because I’m playing a character who I would love to be off screen. A heartwarming, multi- generational story of sisterhood! (sic)."
Sharmaji Ki Beti made headlines last year when actor Madhuri Dixit walked out from the proposed feature film. The project has been in a state of suspension since then. Sources at that time claimed that Kashyap's husband actor Ayushmann Khurrana has also stepped in as a producer for his wife's film. Talking about the woman-centric drama, she had earlier said there was no determined time period for when the team was going to start this project since they couldn't find the actors to play these significant characters. But Kashyap was determined to start this at the earliest and now it is happening.
A mother of two, Kashyap revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2018. During her recovery period, her husband took a break from back to back shootings in order to spend time with his wife and children. Read more about it here.
