Svetlana Khodchenkova to lead Netflix Anna Karenina adaptation: Streaming giant Netflix has announced that it will be adapting Leo Tolstoy's classic novel Anna Karenina as its first Russian language original drama series. The show Anna K (working title) which will be a contemporary retelling of the novel will see Svetlana Khodchenkova in main role of Anna Karenina.
The Netflix show will be set in modern-day Russia and will tell the story of a socialite Anna Karenina who is the wife of the soon-to-become governor of St Petersburg. Anna embarks on a love affair with the heir of an aluminium empire named Vronsky.
The series will be produced by the Moscow-based 1-2-3 Production, directed by Valeriy Fedorovich, Evgeniy Nikishov among others and is written by Roman Kantor and Maria Mikulina.
Who is Svetlana Khodchenkova?
All set to star in Netflix's first original Russian language show, Svetlana Khodchenkova is a Russian theatre, film and television actor. Born in Moscow, the actor graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in 2005 and briefly worked for a modelling agency.
Khodchenkova made her big screen debut with the 2003 film Bless the Woman and was nominated for the "Nika" award as Best Actress for the film. She is mostly known for her roles infilsm such as Love in the Big City, Office Romance, and Our Time.
Khodchenkova appeared in the 2013 superhero film Wolverine as Viper, one of the antagonists of the film. She worked in the 2011 Television shows Lavrova's Method, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. In 2016, Khodchenkova played the lead role of Irina in the historical action film Viking.
The actor married her classmate and Russian actor Vladimir Yaglych in 2005 but the couple separated in 2010. In 2015, Khodchenkova got engaged to a Moscow businessman named Georgiy Petrishin but they called off their engagement in February 2016.
