Sunny Leone on daily wage workers: As some of India's top celebrities are back to the sets and resume shooting following second COVID-19 wave, actor Sunny Leone says her heart goes out to the daily workers who face a loss of income, food shortages, and uncertainty about the future. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many irregularities, financially for everyone, according to Leone. But while actors and celebrities can still manage to survive for some time without any financial hiccups, the same doesn't hold true for industry workers like spot boys, make up artists, light men etc.
Expressing concern over the plight of daily wagers, Leone pointed out that actors and entertainers "might be okay not working for a month or so, yes it will hit us hard" but what's more troubling is "the most will be the spot boys and the light boys and the person who gives me a cheer every single day and wishes me good morning, that guy has to pay and provide for his family." She went on to say that technicians, hair and makeup people "fall under this category, and everything for them hence depends on the artistes working," Hindustan Times reported.
According to Leone the support staff on film sets don’t get a lump sum amount on pay day. "They are the people who make this industry what it is. We might afford to sit home for a while but they and all the rest of the people working really can’t and that upsets me the most.”
Sunny Leone was in news last month when her shot for photographer Dabboo Ratnani's 2021 calendar went viral on social media. In the picture, the actor is seen using an oversized hat to cover herself. Sharing the picture from the Instagram handle, the actor wrote, Summer is here!!” Ratnani too shared the shot with Leone on Instagram, writing, “Sunshine Is Great For the Soul, But Make Sure To Wear A Big Hat! Scorching Hot & Stunning Shot of Sunny Leone @sunnyleone for #dabbooratnanicalendar #2021.” Read more about the photoshoot here.
