The 2001 superhit film Gadar Ek Prem Katha is all set to get a sequel Gadar 2. Actor Ameesha Patel took to Twitter to share a glimpse of the leading pair reprising the roles of Tara Singh and Sakeena from the muhuraat of the film.
The two actors are reuniting 20 years post the release of the film. The second installment will also star Utkarsh Sharma. In the image shared by the actor the Doel can be seen in a turban and a red kurta and Patel is wearing an orange patiala suit. The film went on floors in Himachal Pradesh today. The film is suppose to released on August 2023
Utkarash Sharma tweeted "Lo ek aur safar shuru ho gaya, filled with excitement at the muhurat of #Gadar2. Aap sab ki blessings and pyaar chayiye, Releasing on 2022." Sharma played the role of Tara and Sakeena's son in the first film.
The first film was set at the backdrop of India's partition of India in 1947. The sequel will move ahead with the India-Pakistan angle as per reports. A source close to the development had revealed, "We have been working on Gadar sequel for 15 years. Gadar will show the story of Tara (Sunny Deol), Sakeena (Ameesha Patel), and Jeet (their son). The story will move ahead with the India-Pakistan angle. Gadar is incomplete without it." The 2001 film also starred late actor Amrish Puri and Lillette Dubey.
Earlier in October this year Sunny Doel made the announcement of the film. He wrote, "After two decades the wait is finally over! On the auspicious day of Dusshera, Presenting to you the motion poster of #Gadar2. The Katha Continues... (sic)."
