Actor Sunita Rajwar, renowned for her roles in Panchayat and Gullak, is currently experiencing a triple celebration as both of her shows return with new seasons, while she represents her film Santosh at the Cannes Film Festival's Un Certain Regard section. In a conversation with Brut India at Cannes, she highlighted the industry's tendency to typecast actors for simplicity. She emphasised how actors often succumb to these stereotypes out of necessity, stating, "It is painful, but it is a fact."
Actor’s Revelation On Treatment Of Junior Artists
Discussing disparities between lead and supporting actors, Rajwar noted the privileges lead actors enjoy compared to the struggles of supporting actors for recognition. She pointed out the unfair treatment during call times, highlighting that lead actors receive convenience while supporting actors face humiliation. She commented on irregular call times, expressing frustration: "What’s the point of making them sit? It’s like you are trying to shoot others down."
Rajwar also shed light on conditions on television sets, emphasising the stark contrast in treatment between lead actors and supporting artists. She lamented the disparity in amenities, stating, "Lead actors are pampered. Their room will be neat; they will have a fridge and microwave. Whereas others like us, we will have a small, dingy room."
After experiencing such instances, Rajwar made the difficult decision to step away from acting, even cancelling her CINTAA card. Expressing her frustration, she voiced, "When you do small roles, you are not respected, you are not paid well, and you are treated like animals, which is so heartbreaking."
