Sumona Chakravarti sets the record straight, shutting down falsely spread news by the tabloids. The media's obsession with the glitz and glamour has been age-old. And along with keeping up with the news across B-town and the TV industry, time and again, the media and the tabloids are seen putting out news, based on nothing but speculation.
Assumptions do no good anywhere. Celebrities have been seen requesting the tabloids and the media houses to respect their privacy and not use their lives as another way to make money and get the hits. But all the requests have seemed to go in vain. Now in the era of social media, there seems to be no clear line between the private lives of celebs and the audience. Netizens are spectators to their every comment and every interaction with a fellow celeb giving way to an unhealthy obsession with speculating stories out of nothing.
Just last month, the media seemed obsessed with yet another speculation over Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda dating Siddhant Chaturvedi, Gully Boy fame. All because of one small interaction in the comments section of their social media post. Recently, tabloids suggested that actor-comedian Sumona Chakravarti is soon to tie the knot with Samrat Mukerji, cousin of Bollywood celebs Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, and Ayan Mukherjee. However, Chakravarti has shut down the tabloids.
Sumona Chakravarti Sets The Record Straight: What Went Down?
Sumona Chakravarti rose to fame, through the popular television comedy show- The Kapil Sharma Show. Time and again she has been in the news, due to media speculations about her dating life. Recently many tabloids have been suggesting that the actor is soon set to tie the knot with Samrat Mukherji. The news suggested that the two have been dating for some time and have decided to marry soon. Samrat belongs to the Mukherji family of Bollywood. He is the cousin of actors Kajol and Rani Mukerji and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji. He has a brother, Sharbani Mukherjee who is an actor and Rono Mukerji is his father.
Sumona Chakravarti talking about the rumors said, "Oh, God! These are old 10-year-old stories from social media. This is rubbish. Frankly, no comments, I don't like to talk about my personal life. If ever there's any development, you all will get to know about it. I shall announce it." When asked about Samrat, she said, "He's a friend. That's about it. I don't speak to the media about my friends or family and I want to keep it that way."
Now Sumona has put an end to the speculations running free once and for all after she shared a post targeting the tabloids on her Instagram. Her post reads, "Dear Tabloids, Thank you for taking an interest in my personal life but it really ain't necessary. I AM NOT GETTING MARRIED. You all like to keep circulating my wedding rumor, every year, very diligently. "
She added, "Who I date/marry/live in with is my own personal business and if I ever feel like sharing, I will. Until then, I request all to please stop speculating, It's an earnest request." She captioned the post- 'Post Mortem of Rumours. RIP.P.s If I do get married I will very happily & proudly announce and showcase (my man & the marriage). Cool"
When Will Tabloids Stop Running On Speculations?
Most celebrities stay indifferent to the thousands of speculations tabloids and media throws around based on their personal life. Sometimes when it gets out of hand, celebs much like Sumona come forward, shutting down the tabloids and calling them out on spreading rumors. It's high time tabloids do better than just print anything that has no base. The least media can do is offer the audience facts, isn't that the whole point of media to begin with? Media houses spreading just about anything, without thinking of the effect it will have on celebrities, considering they are also humans like us, has been on an all-time rise.
Every tabloid and their news now sound like a locker room talk, just gossip floating based on mindless speculations, more often than not. This hunger for clicks and making money at the cost of celebrities becoming collateral damage has got to stop. Aren't these media houses doing nothing but causing unhealthy fixation in the audience about celebrity lives? Portraying what they want us to see, even stooping as low as spreading false rumors. Is it high time we think about what we consume and not let tabloids get the best of us?
