Netflix Korea has released an exciting teaser for the much-anticipated second season of Squid Game. On September 20, the streaming giant uploaded a nearly one-minute video, sparking excitement among fans.  The teaser opens with Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) waking up abruptly as his doorbell rings. Armed with a gun, he cautiously opens the door to find a masked figure standing before him.

The clip then offers glimpses of the infamous Squid Game venue, showing participants gearing up for a fresh round of deadly challenges. A masked figure announces in Korean, "We are ready to start the game." Seong Gi-hun is seen once again as Contestant 456, preparing to face new trials.

Set three years after Gi-hun’s victory in the first season, the plot follows his return to the brutal game, this time with a renewed sense of purpose. Having abandoned plans to travel to the US, he re-enters the competition alongside new contestants vying for a $45.6 billion prize.

Season 2 will see the return of key cast members, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, reprising their roles as survivors of the deadly elimination game. Joining them are new additions like Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, and others. Hwang Dong-hyuk, who helmed the original, will once again serve as the director, writer, and producer. The series is being produced by Firstman Studio. Netflix has confirmed a December 26 premiere date.

Since its debut in 2021, the first season of Squid Game has become a record-breaking hit for Netflix, amassing over 2 billion hours of viewing time and earning a staggering 265 million total views. It became the platform’s most-watched non-English show and made history at the Emmys with 14 nominations, winning six awards, including Best Drama Series, the first time a non-English-language series has achieved this feat.
