When Is Squid Game Season 2 Releasing? What We Can Tell You

If you have binge-watched the entire season of Squid Game in a day and are desperately looking forward to a season 2, then you'll be happy to know that your wish is about to come true, although not very soon.

The Korean-language Netflix Series Squid Game developed a cult following as soon as it was released in September of 2021 leading to multiple memes, GIFs and Dalgona candy reels. The show has received numerous awards such as the Critics' Choice Television Awards and The Actors Guild Awards. That's not all, O Yeong-su, whose character was that of the elderly player 001 won a Golden Globe for his performance in the web series.

With incredible hype around the show, it is normal for one to wonder if Squid Game will be coming back for season 2, and when. Can one blame the viewers for demanding more of the show which is one of the most viewed foreign language shows of all time?

Squid Game Season 2: What we know

In a recent interview Netflix's financial, head honcho Ted Sarandos has confirmed the continuation of the show and stated that "the Squid Game universe had just begun." At the end of last year, the creator of the series Hwang Dong-hyuk had mentioned talks with Netflix over a possible third season.

Although season 2 has been confirmed, the details of the plot are a bit more speculative and hazy until the season releases. There is no concentre ">answer for this as Hwang had first developed the idea for Squid Game back in 2008 and pitched it in 2018 and saw the show go into production in 2020 for its ultimate 2021 release. Therefore, there is no surety as to whether the production cycle will speed up because of the demand of the show or if it will slow down to allow the creatives to make a much bigger spectacle. Season 2 has been confirmed recently, therefore, it is likely that the viewers have to wait for another year or more.

Season 2 does not have a trailer as the filming has not even started and will be a waiting game more than anything.

The creators stated in an interview, "So there's been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning process currently. But I do think it's too early to say whether and how that's going to happen. So I will promise you this... (in English) Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world."
