Chitra Passes Away: Popular southern actor Chitra passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest on August 21 in Chennai. She was 56-years-old. Having worked in films of multiple regional languages, Chitra was best known for her work in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. Following the actor's untimely demise on Saturday, fans have been paying their condolence on social media.
Having worked in over 100 films, Chitra earned the nickname "Nallenai" for an immensely popular oil commercial that she featured in. After her marriage 1990, the actor gradually stepped back from the limelight and lived with her husband and daughter in Chennai.
Career
Chitra made her film debut as a child artist in the 1975 Tamil language film Apoorva Raagangal featuring Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. In 1983, she made her debut as an adult actor in Mohanlal and Prem Nazir starrer Malayalam film Attakalasham. She then went on star in films like Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, Amaram, Ekalavyan, Kalikkalam, Devasuram and Pathamudayam.
Taking a break from cinema after she got married to a businessman named Vijayaraghavan in the year 1990, she made a comeback to films with projects like Mazhavillu and Soothradharan.
In her career, the actor worked opposite notable names of the southern film industry like Mohanlal, Mammooty, Suresh Gopi, Murali Karthikeyan Muthuraman, Sivaji Ganesan and Sathyaraj. Apart from films, the actor had also worked in many regional television shows.
Early years
Chitra was born in 1965 to parents Madhavan and Devi. Second of the three children the couple had, Chitra did her schooling from Chennai. However, she up her studies after class tenth, due to increasing film commitments.
