Singer Britney Spears will now be filing a petition in order to remove her father from conservatorship. Her legal team will be asking a Los Angeles court for this demand next month on April 27.
Britney's lawyer Samuel Ingham has already demanded to make Jodi Montgomery her permanent conservator during a hearing on Wednesday. Montgomery was appointed as the singer's temporary conservator in 2019 when her father Jamie Spears was ill.
Britney Spears had demanded removing the father from conservatorship last year
Singer Britney Spears is adamant about preventing her father from getting involved in her personal affairs.
Jamie Spears became his daughter's conservator in 2005 when Britney was admitted to the hospital for getting psychiatric treatment.
A recent television documentary was released in February which focused on the case and the #FreeBritney movement which was initiated by fans. Her fans believe that she is being held in prison and that she has been sending cryptic messages through her posts on social media.
However, Vivian Thoreen, an attorney for Jamie Spears, had said that Britney Spears had never asked for the termination of the legal arrangement.
"This is a story about a fiercely loyal, loving, and dedicated father who rescued his daughter from a life-threatening situation. People were harming her and they were exploiting her," Thoreen told the TV show "Good Morning America" in an interview.
"Anytime Britney wants to end her conservatorship she can ask her lawyer to file a petition to terminate it," Thoreen said.
