Who Is Shreya Lenka? The Girl From Odisha Competing For Entry To K-Pop Blackswan Band

Shreya Lenka is an 18-year-old girl from Odisha who is competing to make a global space for India in K-pop music. She is trying for the position of the fifth member in the famous K-pop group called Blackswan. 

The contest is been held to fill the fifth spot left vacant by the South Korean singer Hyemi who was a former member of Blackswan and RaNia. The group currently has four members Judy, Fatou, Leia and Youngheun.

1. Shreya Lenka was born in 2003 in the steel township of Rourkela, Odisha.

2. Lenka is a trained Odissi dancer (major ancient Indian classical dance that originated in the temples of Odisha) and well versed in other dance forms as well. She was trained with Madan Mohan Purthy who is a famed choreographer of the dance form. 

3. Later on after her father got posted in Jharsuguda of Odisha, she started her training under Mendo Barla who is a renowned dance choreographer and fitness instructor. 

4. Lenka has been an ardent practitioner of Yoga as well. Her social media posts show her love for the ancient spiritual discipline. 

5. As she had a great inclination towards different art forms, she also pursued music and also learned Hindustani classical music at a very young age. However, she learned western music on her own through various online videos.

6. She is about to become the first K-pop artist from India and has become one of the two finalists after competing with contestants globally. K -pop stands for Korean popular music and is a genre of music originating in South Korea as part of the culture.

7. Lenka is a member of Queens of Revolution, a dance cover girl group. If she comes as the winner of the show, she will join as the fifth member of the Blackswan band (South Korean girl group formed by DR Music).

8. In the final round, she will be qualifying against Gabriela Dalcin from Brazil, who is also a K-pop dance cover artist.

9. With over 13k + followers, Lenka posts reels of her dance and singing on her social media profile. She is a Mandala art practitioner as well and loves sketching and drawing. 

10. As per reports, Lenka and Dalcin will be going to South Korea to receive training in K-pop music by DR Music. She was welcomed by the DR Music Instagram page through a post which was captioned - "Introducing new trainees Sriya Lenka."
