Simone Ashley is of Indian descent. Her parents, Gunasekharan and Latha, are from Surrey, England. Born Simone Ashwini Pillai, she took on the screen name Ashley for the ease of pronunciation by her English peers. Always being drawn to Arts, Simone went on to study drama at Redroofs Theatre School in Berkshire and has also acquired a degree in acting from the ArtsEd School in Chiswick, in West London. Revealing more about her choice of profession Simone Ashley stated, “My parents are incredibly protective over me, and sometimes I found it quite stifling. It made me want to escape and do things my own way.”

Portraying a British-Indian character Olivia Hannan, she showcases the complicated nature of sex and conversations around it in an Indian household. Simone made her acting debut back in 2016 through a show named Wolfblood and since has bagged several roles in shows and movies included. She has done several shows namely Guilt, Broadchurch, Strike, Doctors, Casualty, and The Sisters, featuring in an episodic manner, for one to two episodes, as a guest star. Ashley stepped into the world of movies in 2018, as Aarti in Boogie Man. In the same year, she played a prominent role as the Girl Ben Lyk in Kill Ben Lyk. She has also been a part of a short film called Sparrow as Taylor and has played a tiny part as an unknown person's girlfriend also featured in the trailer, in the popular movie Detective Pikachu. She is also reportedly a part of Walt Disney's live-action- The Little Mermaid all set to release in 2023, but her character hasn't been disclosed yet.

Simone’s casting as Kate was reportedly the easiest casting that was done in a quick two weeks' time, approved by author Julia Quinn herself.
