Producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers will now be receiving the Distinguished Collaborator Award at the 23rd CDGA (Costume Designers Guild Awards) which will be held on April 13.
“From the record-breaking series, Grey’s Anatomy to the latest binge-worthy series, Bridgerton, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers have been longtime partners of the Costume Designers Guild,” said Salvador Perez, President of the Costume Designers Guild. Perez also added that both Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers have created some 'culture-defining' moments with the help of various collaborators and costume designers.

As far as the award is concerned, it is given to those people who have showcased relentless support for costume design, and initiated creative partnerships with costume designers.
Ellen Mirojnick, a costume designer said that Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers are visionary women who have always been creative and imaginative at their work. Ellen said that it was a matter of honour to collaborate with them.
Award show will be hosted by Lana Condor
The Distinguished Collaborator Award will be presented by Nicola Coughlan to Rhimes and Betsy. Many notable names have been the recipients of this award, including Meryl Streep, Quentin Tarantino, Guillermo Del Toro, Lorne Michaels, Helen Mirren, Judd Apatow, Clint Eastwood, etc.
Another costume designer named Lyn Paolo said that Shonda and Betsy deserve this honour, as they are truly 'innovative' collaborators.
The award ceremony will be hosted by Lana Condor and will have an array of presenters which include Andra Day, Carrey Mulligan, Regina King, etc.
Speaking about the latest honour, Shonda Rhimes said that it felt like a huge compliment to all the costume designers out there. “This feels more like a giant compliment to the costume designers that we’ve gotten to work with over the years,” said Rhimes.
