Shilpa Shetty To Make OTT Debut As The First Woman Cop In A Rohit Shetty Directional

Actor Shilpa Shetty will be seen in a web series titled India Police Force. Shetty is first woman to play the role of a cop in a cinematic project directed by Rohit Shetty.

The filmmaker announced the web series on Saturday. India Police Force will also mark Shilpa Shetty's debut on OTT platforms. Reportedly, the series will release on Amazon Prime Video. The show will also have Sidharth Malhotra in a lead role of a Delhi police officer.

According to reports, the makers of the series have called it an attempt to pay tribute to the 'selfless service and unconditional commitment and fierce patriotism' displayed by police officers of India. Director Rohit Shetty shared the news on his Instagram account with a picture of Shilpa Shetty holding a gun in riot gear surrounded with fire.

The director wrote, "Welcome to the squad Shilpa! Get ready for Gun Battles, Hand to Hand Combats, High speed chases and YES! Flying Cars…INDIAN POLICE FORCE #FilmingNow @sidmalhotra @theshilpashetty @primevideoin @rohitshettypicturez." So far, Rohit Shetty has helmed many cop dramas such as Singham, Simmba, Sooryavanshi and none of them had a woman playing the role of a cop. The male actors who headlined Shetty's films so far are Akshaya Kumar, Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn. The director has often faced flak over the absence of a female cop figure in his films. By including Shilpa Shetty in his upcoming cop drama, the director has set certain expectations and only the release of the series will prove if he was able to do justice to a woman police officer character.

Shilpa Shetty expressed delight on being cast in Rohit Shetty's cop franchise. The 46-year-old actor said, "Ready to set the OTT platform on fire for the first time. Superrr Thrilled to join The Action King Rohit Shetty in his Cop Universe! #IndianPoliceForceOnPrime, now filming! @itsrohitshetty @sidmalhotra @primevideoin @rohitshettypicturez." The series is divided into eight parts, as per the makers. This will also mark the debut of Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra. He recently made waves with his film Shershaah in which he played the role of a war hero, Vikran Batra.

Reportedly, the shooting of Indian Police Force is being shot in Mumbai. The show is expected to release on the OTT platform sometime in 2023.
