Vidya Balan who has been hit out at for her fashion statements over the years as well as body-shamed spoke up about seeking help from a healer and is on a journey of self-acceptance.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Balan revealed that she is working on blocking away the negative comments and becoming more accepting of her body. She recalled the days when she would refrain from stepping out of the house owing to the constant judgement.
Balan said that those days were “very nasty". However, the actor explained that she doesn't read anything anymore but previously her "nervousness itself would not bring out the best" in her.
The actor further talked about how she came to terms with the fact that she can’t be “perfect”. Balan elaborated that at times, even when a stylist would give her the “fashion perfect” look, she was still criticised.
"Accepting myself. I have been working with a healer for many years now. And that has really helped. Because acceptance of self gives me purpose in life," she added.
Previously, while speaking with Hindustan Times, Vidya Balan also opened up about her own experience of facing sexism and said, "Misogyny is so intrinsic to the patriarchal mindset, in which we are all steeped, that it is difficult to get rid of it easily,” she said.
Citing her own example, she revealed that she herself has been a target of sexism, even today, although it’s “less now than before”.
Meanwhile, Vidya Balan starrer Sherni released on the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video on Friday. The film directed by Amit V Masurkar revolves around a female forest officer who battles patriarchal stigmas to solve a man versus nature conflict, while her capabilities are constantly questioned by senior officers around her.

One of the viewers took to Twitter and wrote, “Wonderfully scripted with due value for ground facts. Technical nuances are filmed realistic. Kudos also for ascertaining the strength of lady front line staff. #Sherni will definitely be a trailblazer and motivate more women into forest field".

"Watched #Sherni , really liked the film, it beautifully shows the real problems, actual situations, how a govt employee fight & loose. It's not a happy movie. If u expect suspense or thriller, u will be disappointed horribly," another tweet read.

After Newton, Amit is once again in the jungle. Talking about environmental issues in Hindi film on the pretext of ‘Sherni’ is like a pleasant feeling. Apart from this, all the elements behind the destruction of the forest are in the film itself. must watch.#Sherni

1. Finally Indian cinema had moved away from #HappyEnding and #heroism to realism and the brutal ground reality.
2. It very subtly portray the common issue in the life of a #forester #ifs officer.
3. Hats off to @vidya_balan & Amit Masurkar. #Sherni pic.twitter.com/HjVdB7z29O
While I wish it wasn't quite so understated, I really enjoyed #Sherni. Led by a fantastic Vidya Balan, it's an immersive documentary-esque drama which, like Newton, is about how Indian beauracracy and politicking disrupts and takes lives.
