Over the past few months, the calls to boycott Bollywood movies have gotten louder. Films like Laal Singh Chadha, Darlings, Raksha Bandhan, and Do Baaraa have all been subjected to this social media trend. However, actor Shefali Shah, believes it to be only a passing fad that won't stick around.
Many have argued that Bollywood may find it difficult to get out of its current slump as Hindi films continue to disappoint audiences and fail at the box office. It has also been predicted that these boycott calls are to blame for the subpar success of Hindi films. But how correct is this claim?
Shefali Shah On Boycott Bollywood
During a recent interview, actor Shefali Shah responded to the Boycott Bollywood calls on social media and dismissed it as a trend that wasn't "Long-lasting". She added that the notion that Bollywood was "dying" didn't seem feasible. According to Shah, movies are a culture, just like cricket. "People have their point of view, they have their opinions, but there is also a lot of love and appreciation that we get. I think we should just take it in our stride and just say 'we tried' and we move on," the actor added.
The last time we saw Shah was in the movie Darlings, which also starred Alia Bhatt, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew. Jasmeet K. Reen's film, which had its Netflix debut on August 5, garnered many positive reviews, with reviewers complimenting Shefali's performance as a single working mother who stands by her daughter while she struggles with an abusive husband. Shah will soon be seen in the second season of the true crime drama Delhi Crime, in which she will once again essay the role of Delhi Police DCP Vartika Chaturvedi. The series will start streaming on August 26.
