Telugu superstar Samantha Ruth Prabhu took to social media on February 21, to share the first look of her upcoming mythological film Shakuntalam. The actor is seen dressed in a white saree, adorned with red flowers and surrounded by a forest and its various inhabitants as she sits on a boulder with a basket full of flowers.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu shared the poster on her social media accounts along with the caption, "Presenting...Nature's beloved..the Etheral and Demure..Shakuntala from #Shaakuntalam."
Samantha, who caught the attention of Hindi speaking appearance with her performance in Manoj Bajpayee's The Family Man 2 was last seen on screen in a viral song video from the Telugu film Pushpa.
The Shakuntalam poster is filled with details that live up to the caption as Shakuntala is seen surrounded by deer and birds. Not only is her blouse bordered with flowers, she is also wearing them on her arms, wrists, ankles and forehead as ornaments.

According to Hindu mythology, Shakuntala was the daughter of Meneka and Rishi Vishwamitra. She lived in the forest with her teacher Rishi Kanva. In there, she met with King Dushyant and the two fell in love and got married. She gets pregnant and gives birth to a baby boy, who later on becomes King Bharat. Soon after the birth, Dushyant leaves her behind at the ashram and promises to return soon. However, due to a curse from Rishi Durvasa, Shakuntala's life takes a tragic turn when Dushyant forgets about her and the two remain separated until fate and destiny bring them back together.
In an interview with the Filmfare, Samantha spoke about her character and how it is the exact opposite to her role of Raji in The Family Man 2. She said, "I have always liked choosing films that are completely different from my previous work. Shakuntalam is the extreme opposite, the other side of the spectrum from Raji."
While talking about the film, she added, "Every shot is perfect, every frame is a painting. I had to look the most beautiful that I've ever looked! So that pressure was there. It was fascinating. I've always been obsessed with mythology, period dramas, and this princess world. I really loved my dream role with Shakuntalam."
She also said that she has been a fan of Disney all her life and the film is everything that she could wish for. In fact, the actor found it hard to believe that it was her in the film when she went through some of its shots. Applauding the team, she said, "The team has done such a fantastic job from production design, costumes, lighting, and makeup. I just had to show up."
The film is directed by Gunasekhar and produced by Neelima Guna. It will release in four languages--Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
