Starring Taapsee Pannu, Shabaash Mithu came out with its first trailer on June 20. The film is based on the life journey of Mithali Raj, the former captain of Indian women's cricket team who recently retired from International cricket. Raj in her 23-year-long career broke and made many records with her 10,000 runs in ODI matches. Pannu will be playing the role of the star cricketer in her biopic.
In a glimpse of the film shared in the trailer, Pannu's Raj is seen fighting all odds ever since she was a child. Her introduction to cricket, the training days and her early captaincy are all explored in the film. As per the trailer, the film is going to show Raj's struggles as a women's team captain on the field and at the cricket board where she is mocked by her teammates, society and the administration heads sitting at the top deciding on the fate of the team.
Raj rise to the top seems to be highlight of the film however, it seems to be a cliched sports drama judging by the trailer. Whether the nuances of the star performer's journey will be shown in the film or not can only be seen when the film releases on July 15 this year. Vijay Raaz is also starred in the film with Pannu as her character's coach. The trailer ends with Pannu's Raj sitting stumped at a press conference when a journalist asks her the name of her favourite male cricketer. Child actor Inayat Sharma is seen playing the role of young Mithali Raj.
