Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Shaakuntalam was released on April 14 in theatres in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The film is the on-screen adaptation of the mythological love story of Shakuntaka and King Dushyant and the first few reviews of the film are out.
After much wait and anticipation, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dev Mohan starrer magnum opus Shaakuntalam finally released in 3D in cinemas. The movie, directed by Gunasekhar and produced by Neelima Guna, is based on Kalidas' famous play Abhijnanasakuntalam that tells the love story of the mighty King Dushyant and the daughter of Menaka and Rishi Vishwakarma, Shakuntala.
Shakuntala and King Dushyant got married without the world knowing and had a son, Prince Bharat, but due to the curse of Rishi Durvasa, King Dushyant forgets all about her and their child.
The film is about how the two attempt to break the curse and reunited once again. The fans expected a lot from the film as it was being made on a very large scale. However, the first few reviews on Twitter indicate a mixed reaction as some find it great while some are left disappointed.

Shaakuntalam Twitter Review
Twitter audiences acknowledged the fact the movie's CGI was top-notch. They loved how every scene was so cinematic and beautiful with the actors giving their best. However, the storytelling was not up to the mark considering the epic story and a really capable cast.
A user complimented Samantha's acting as Shakuntala and said that it was as if she lived the character. They praised the visuals of the movie and called it one of the best performances of the actor.
Users talked about how they loved the characters and their performance but would have loved it if the screenplay was better. They also talked about how Shakuntala was seen all shy and helpless, sighing in the corner while King Dushyant fought wars. Many users said that they wanted to see more of how Shakuntala raised Bharat on her own as a single mother.
A Twitter user wrote that the film Shaakuntalam was a disappointment. They said it was "sad" that the heroine-led film made the female lead "submissive and stupid".
A Twitter user wrote that they were disappointed with the movie's graphics, song and screenplay. Though they found Samantha Ruth Prabhu's acting captivating and loved Allu Arha's role as Prince Bharat, they felt that director Gunasekhar did not do justice to the epic lore.
Overall, the film got mixed reactions from the audience and it seems that despite of having a star-studded cast including Mohan Babu, Prakash Raj, Sachin Khedekar, Aditi Balan and Madhoo, the movie could not put their potential to good use.
The film also marks the debut of Allu Arjun's daughter Allu Arha who plays the role of Prince Bharat in the movie. Allu Arjun expressed his happiness on seeing his daughter on screen and the audience too loved her entry and role in the movie.
