On July 5, the Ambani family hosted a lavish sangeet ceremony ahead of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding, showcasing stunning fashion moments that captivated all in attendance. Among the standout appearances was Isha Ambani, the groom’s sister, who dazzled in a unique fusion ensemble by Schiaparelli. Celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania shared several photos of Isha on Instagram, showcasing her in a striking blue and silver saree gown.
Isha Ambani Stuns in Schiaparelli's Custom Saree at Anant and Radhika's Grand Sangeet
Isha Ambani adorned an electric blue saree designed by Daniel Roseberry, paired elegantly with a structured silver blouse and a prominent brooch at the waist. This particular saree from Schiaparelli, known for its avant-garde designs, reportedly draws inspiration from Rani Sita Devi of Kapurthala, also known as Princess Karam in the West, dating back to 1935.
Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Isha accessorised the ensemble with a double-layered diamond necklace, matching ear studs, and a square-cut diamond maang tika. Her hair was styled in a sleek side-parted bun, complemented by smokey eyes, well-defined eyebrows, and berry lips, adding a clean and chic finish to her look.
Not the First for This Fashion House
However, notably, this custom creation from Schiaparelli is not the label’s debut in designing a saree. Maharani Sita Devi was a renowned fashion icon known for her impeccable style. Elsa Schiaparelli, founder of Schiaparelli, a renowned designer for its daring and surrealistic designs, was so mesmerised by the princess's elegance that she created an entire collection inspired by her.
She was so mesmerised by the princess's elegance that she created an entire collection inspired by her. Princess Karam, in a historic quote, expressed her excitement about being Schiaparelli's muse: "I was thrilled to see that some of the dressmakers were actually inspired for their new models this year by some of the saris I wore in the summer of 1934."
This 1935 collection included the first Schiaparelli saree, incorporating elements such as harem pants and sari-like evening gowns, which reflected Princess Karam's unique fashion sense. The collection was even featured in Harpers Bazaar, significantly influencing the perception of slender silhouettes and the structural design of evening gowns at that time.
Additionally, in the fashion book "Frocking Life: Searching for Elsa Schiaparelli" by Billy Roy, the 1935 collection is described as featuring "sari-like drapes" rather than explicitly being called "saris."
