Scam 2003: The Telgi Story narrates the story of the 2003 paper scam by Abdul Karim Telgi. The series follows the life of Abdul Karim Telgi, who was born in Karnataka’s Khanapur, and his journey to becoming the mastermind of one of India's most ingenious crimes, which shook the entire nation.

The value of the scam is estimated to be around Rs. 20,000 crore. The makers of the web series announced last year that veteran actor Gagan Dev Riar would be essaying the role of Abdul Karim Telgi in the web series.

Kiran Yadnyopavit, who is prominent in the Marathi film industry, will be writing and developing the story with Sanjay Singh. The web series is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Studio Next.

Scam 2003: The Telgi Story is directed by Tushar Hiranandani and helmed by Hansal Mehta. He had earlier directed Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, featuring Pratik Gandhi as Harshad Mehta. The series was an adaptation of journalist Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu’s 1992 book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away, which was a huge hit.
