Sanya Malhotra is gearing up for the release of romantic-thriller Love Hostel this week. The actor started in the industry just six years back with the film Dangal and in no time rose to be one of the best performers that the Hindi films industry has to offer. She has carved her own niche in the star-driven industry quietly, one critically acclaimed performance at a time.
The range of emotions Malhotra shows from one film to another is a beautiful melody. She has also played a variety of characters- from a wrestler, a widow to a recent married young woman in a long-distance relationship. Like her past films, her upcoming venture too seems to bring a new concept to our screens- that of a "hostel" for couples who are at threat from their families.
Malhotra will be seen in an upcoming thriller film Love Hostel, which is directed by Shankar Raman and produced by Gauri Khan, Manish Mundra and Gaurav Verma. The story revolves around newlyweds Jyoti Dilawar and Ahmed Shaukeen alias Ashu, played by Sanya Malhotra and Vikrant Massey, who tie the knot despite strong opposition from the girl's family.

Desperate and in need of help, they approach the court, which not only provides them with security but also lodges them at a hostel where other couples in similar situations live. On the side, the family hires an assassin to bring back the girl, where she would be murdered by the family in a sense to preserve the "honour." The film is scheduled to release on February 25 this year on Zee5.
Best Sanya Malhotra films to watch ahead of Love Hostel release:
Pagglait
A grieving widow, no. Malhotra in the film plays the role of a woman named Sandhya whose husband has just passed away and she cannot make herself shed a single tear. She is not the quintessential image of a widow howling inconsolably in grief. She is always hungry, craving for puchkas. Turns out that Sandhya and her husband were in a loveless marriage.
Slowly, she explores her husband's past meeting with his former girlfriend to get to know him better and tries to understand why their relationship never worked. Malhotra's performance in this Umesh Bisht film was appreciated for its range and nuances.
Dangal
This Aamir Khan-starrer was Malhotra's debut film. She played the role of Babita Kumari, who is a wrestler and younger sister of Geeta Phogat, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh. In a talk show with Karan Johar, the two women lead actors revealed how they became friends from day one and bonded over.
The film, based on real-life events, captures how Geeta and Babita, coming from a small village setting in Haryana, where the idea of girls' wrestling was looked down upon and a completely unfamiliar subject, go on to win medals for the country. These two women are backed by their father Mahavir Singh Phogat, played by Khan, who couldn't win a gold for his country. The film was directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
Ludo
In the film about four different stories representing four different colours of the ludo game, Malhotra played the role of Shruti, who meets Akash, played by Aditya Roy Kapur, for prospective marriage. The couple however enters a casual relationship, with Shruti eventually being engaged to another man,
Trouble brews when a video of Shruti and Akash having sex in a hotel room finds its way to the Internet and the two have to work together to find the source of the leak, in order to plug. Despite being peppered with an ensemble star cast, Malhotra manages to leave a distinct impression in the OTT film.
Badhaai Ho
The scene where Reena, played by Sanya Malhotra, tired of her boyfriend's immaturity asks him, "Why do you find it embarrassing that tere mom-dad sex karte hai (Your parents have sex)? makes you fall in love with the character and Malhotra as an actor. The plot of the film revolves around Nakul Kaushik, played by Ayushmann Khurana whose mother, (Neena Gupta) gets pregnant with a third child. The film addresses the issue of middle-aged parents' sex life and the stigma around it. The plot goes parallel with Nakul's love story with Reena. Directed by Amit Sharma, Badhaai do gets across the message on late pregnancies in a hilarious way.
Pataakha
The word Pataakha means firecracker. The film is about two sisters played by Malhotra and Radhika Madan who cannot simply get along. Directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, the captures the fights of these two women and how they escalate when they are married into the same household. The film is an adaptation of Charan Singh Pathik's short story titled Do Behnein.
