Sanjay Leela Bhansali announces web-series Heeramandi: On Tuesday, Aug 10 filmmaker and music composer Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced his debut OTT project Heeramandi. The series set in the Heeramandi area of Lahore in the undivided India, which now falls under Pakistan. It will explore the themes of love, betrayal, politics, succession in the brothels of Heeramandi through three generations of courtesans.
Taking to their official Twitter handle, Bhansali Productions announced, "An epic experience awaits you...A visual spectacle that will leave you breathless. We are thrilled to bring #SanjayLeelaBhansali's #Heeramandi on @NetflixIndia." The first look reveals the name of the series with the tag line 'Where Courtesans Were Queens'.

Sharing the poster, The OTT platform too announced the series. "We are excited to announce that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi is coming to Netflix. Words aren't enough to explain how excited we are that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is partnering with us for this epic Netflix Original series but these emojis come pretty close (sic)," the platform tweeted.

Talking to Variety, Bhansali said that Heeramandi is a magnum opus about the courtesans of Lahore. He added that it is something he was living with for 14 years. The director called the web series 'vast and ambitious'. He further said that he lives with an idea for a long time and builds it gradually.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali completed 25 years in the film industry on Monday, Aug 9. To mark the occasion, Bhansali productions shared a video comprising clippings of his movies Devdas, Guzaarish, Bajirao Mastani, Black and many more. The caption read, "Bhansali Productions | Celebrating 25 Years Of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Each passing day has been an onset of a new beginning.
