We're Entertainers Not Fact-Checkers: Samantha Akkineni Calls Out Media

Samantha Akkineni calls out media: Well-known Telugu and Tamil film star Samantha Akkineni posted a short video on Instagram recently, calling out Indian media in the 'What did she say' challenge. She captioned the video, "Them: We need your opinion on "this important topic". Me: Wondering since when did actors' opinions matter soooooo much."

Akkineni, who recently launched a pre-school in Hyderabad, hit back at the media for judging artists for not addressing current "important" issues. Writing that actors are "entertainers" and not "fact-checkers", she stated, “Why are actors crucified for having an opinion about the important matters pertaining to the world? We are humans too and we make mistakes too. But cancelling us for speaking out or not speaking out aloud on each & every topic is a bit unfair, don't you think? Let us stick to what we do best .. making you fall in love with our performances (sic)."

Akkineni is often praised for supporting other actors on social media. Recently, the actor had praised Kangana Ranaut after the trailer release of Thalaivi and called her the "bravest" actor of the generation. "#ThalaiviTrailer is outstanding @KanganaTeam You are the bravest, most daring and indisputably the most talented actress of our generation #Vijay sir goosebumps stuff just goosebumps stuff. Can’t wait to witness this magic in the theatre," Akkineni tweeted.

On the work front, the Super Deluxe actor is currently is shooting for Shaakuntalam, a mythological drama, written and directed by Gunasekhar. She will also make her OTT debut with the second season of the popular Hindi series The Family Man.

Samantha Akkineni is married to actor Naga Chaitanya, with whom she has featured in films like Manam, Ye Maaya Chesave and Autonagar Surya. Akkineni recently turned entrepreneur with a fashion label 'Saaki'. Speaking about her decision to turining into an entrepreneur, Akkineni said that her aim is to make fashion “affordable and accessible to everyone”.
