Saira Banu hospitalised: Veteran actor Saira Banu was hospitalised recently due to blood pressure related issued. It seems that the actor's health has taken a turn for worse as now she has been shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The 77-year-old actor is availing treatment at Hinduja Hospital in Khar, Mumbai. Banu had lost her husband, legendary Hindi cinema actor Dilip Kumar on July 7. The couple has no children.

Banu was a renowned name in Bollywood back in the 60s, having starred in several hit films like Padisan, Purab Aur Paschim, Jwaar Bhata, Jhuk Gaya Aasman, Bairaag and Hera Pheri. She made her debut opposite Shammi Kapoor in the 1961 film Junglee.

She married Kumar in 1966, despite the age gap of 22 years. Here are some interesting facts about the couple:

  • Saira Banu fell in love with Dilip Kumar at the age of 12. On their first encounter, Banu knew in her heart that one day she will be his wife.
  • When the couple got married, Banu was just 22, while Kumar was 44 years old.
  • Kumar proposed marriage to Banu while she was shooting for the film Jhuk Gaya Aasman opposite Rajendra Kumar.
  • In 1972, the couple lost their unborn baby in eighth month of pregnancy.
  • During the 1980s, Kumar tied the knot with a Pakistani woman named Asma Rehamn, however he ended the relationship two years later and reunited with Banu.
  • Kumar had later called his relationship with Rehman a "grave mistake" on his part.
  • Dilip Kumar passed away in July this year, at the age of 97, with his wife of 55 years by his side.
