Know More About Run Lola Run, The Film Which Inspired Taapsee Pannu's Looop Lapeta

Run Lola Run: As Taapsee Pannu's character in the film Looop Lapeta runs against the 50 minutes set to rescue her "useless boyfriend" played by Tahir Raj Bhasin from the clutches of a local don, one is reminded of Franka Potente in red hair and Dr Marten boots sprinting across Berlin to rescue her boyfriend, played by Moritz Bleibtreu in 1998 German film, Run Lola Run.

The Hindi film Looop Lapeta is the remake of the German film. Taapse Pannu plays Franka Potente's character and Tahir Raj Bhasin plays Moritz Bleibtreu's character. The trailer of the much-awaited film was released today and in an hour has 1.2 lakh views, 10 thousand likes and no dislike yet. While announcing the film Pannu had shared, “Right, so here’s yet another announcement from my stable. I’m on a roll. Or shall I say in a loop? Stoked to announce Sony Picture India and Ellipsis Entertainment’s crazy thriller-comedy, 'LOOOP LAPETA', an adaptation of the cult classic 'Run Lola Run.'"

The trailer introduces the film from Pannu's voice as Savi and the scene opens with Pannu and Bhasin together. She goes on to give a snippet of their relationship to the audience and then the plot quickly shifts to Bhasin's addiction to casinos and gambling. It quickly escalates to Bhasin being kidnapped and Savi threatened to get 50 lakhs in 50 minutes to save his life. The rest goes on with her running and struggling to find that amount and the trailer ends with the good old time loop trick where Savi is stuck in a loop, which gives her time to save her boyfriend. It ends on a triller note as it began.

"I ran behind some films and some have just thankfully fallen in my lap. This (Looop Lapeta) being the latter I couldn't be more grateful to these guys and the luck line in my palm. From entering the narration with the idea to say no, to leave it with an immediate yes, thanks to these gentlemen for hanging by a solid script and concept for years and being more sure of me being Savi that I was," Pannu had posted on Instagram.

Even Potente, who played Lola in the German film, was unsure about Run Lola Run. In an interview with The Guardian, she said that she was shooting in New York when the call for this script came and she flew back to Berlin to meet director-writer Tom Tykwer. She found the title "cool but weird." After a reading session with Tykwer, she "realised the energy" she had felt. They, along with Bleibtreu ended up making one of the greatest films of the 90s.

Bleibtreu, who plays Manni said, "...It's a feminist story. Nineties action movies were about the cool girl with a deep voice who saves the girl. This was one of the first features where you had a woman- a regular woman, not a 6ft Amazonian with diamond triceps- who's just running to help her boyfriend. And she's got red hair!"

Run Lola Run was about a woman who has to secure 100,000 Deutschmarks in twenty minutes to save the life of her partner. The film was a hit at the Munich Film Festival. "The audience were super jacked-up from the previous film-Trainspotting, and when Lola ended, 800 people roared like they were at a soccer game. I went from goosebumps to crying. I'll never forget that feeling," Potente said in the interview.
