Hollywood regular Rosamund Pike has reclaimed her Gone Girl glory with her latest film titled I care a lot. After her much appreciated character Amy Dunne in the film based on Gillian Flynn’s twisty novel, she has now made her comeback as Marla Grayson.
In the writer-director J Blakeson’s dark-comedy the actor features as a con-artist on look out for rich elderly.
Pike took to Instagram to share an update about the release date of the film, “Where others see danger, she sees opportunity. A world of misrule opens up tomorrow. I CARE A LOT. On @netflixfilm or on @primevideouk,” she wrote.
Here are ten things to know about the neo-noir film I care a lot:
1.I Care A Lot is a film based on a shady legal guardian, Marla Grayson, played by Rosamund Pike. Grayson’s livelihood includes luring the elderly into an old-age home and auctioning out their assets. A cynical twist is added to the story when Roman Lunyov (Peter Dinklage), a drug kingpin, intervenes and makes her life miserable.
2.Speaking of the inspiration behind the storyline, J Blakeson said, “It started when I saw news stories about real-life predatory guardians who game the system and exploit their wards. And I was horrified. Imagine opening your door one day and there is a person standing there holding a piece of paper that gives them total legal power over you. That idea terrified me — and seemed very relevant right now. It plugged into themes that I am interested in exploring — themes about the power of authority, about people vs profit, control vs freedom, humanity vs bureaucracy...I knew I had to explore it."
3.To prepare for the role, Pike listened to TED Talks by Elizabeth Holmes. Holmes, who was CEO of a healthcare company, was criminally charged with fraud in June 2018.
4.Rosamund Pike, who earned her first Oscar and Golden Globe Award nomination for her 2014 release Gone Girl, has notched her third Golden Globe nomination in the Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress category for I Care a Lot.
5.Stating what compelled her to take up the role, Pike said “It was her appetite, her shamelessness, her ambition, her ruthlessness, all these traits that historically, women haven’t really got to portray.”
6.The film was released on February 19, 2021, on two renowned OTT platforms, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, simultaneously.
7.Joining Pike in this thriller, Eiza González plays Marla's literal partner-in-crime, and Peter Dinklage, the Game Of Thrones star, as gangster Roman Lunyov.
