Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's Roohi Afzana is probably going to become the first major Bollywood movie to release in theatres post full reopening of cinema halls in Maharashtra.
As the Maharashtra government gives permission for 100 per cent capacity in theatres, several major Bollywood films are slated to get theatrical releases from March onwards.
According to the reports, the first 'major' Hindi film to hit the big screens after a dry spell of almost a year is Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer Roohi Afzana, directed by Hardik Mehta. Earlier, it was said that Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi would be the first big Bollywood release post the full reopening of theatres.
However, the horror-comedy is slated for release in the first week of March 2021. Sooryavanshi is expected to release in the last week of the same month or in early April.
Here are 9 things to know about the upcoming movie Roohi Afzana:
- Roohi Afzana is comedy-horror directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. The film stars Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles. This is the first time the lead actors will share the screen.
- It also has Varun Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Ronit Roy and American actor Alexx O'Nell in the supporting roles.
- The plot reportedly revolves around a ghost who abducts brides on their honeymoons. It was earlier named as 'Rooh-Afza'.
- The soundtrack is by Sachin-Jigar, Tanishk Bagchi, and Badshah. Meanwhile, the lyrics are penned down by Priya Saraiya, Jigar Saraiya, Badshah and Irshad Kamil. Furthermore, the background score has been composed by Sandeep Shirodkar.
- Roohi Afzana was earlier supposed to release on June 5, 2020. However, the release got indefinitely delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There were initially rumours of the movie getting digital release back in 2020 itself.
- As per Pinkvilla, a close trade source revealed that the movie is based on the lines of Stree, the 2018 comedy horror superhit starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor.
- On February 2020, Janhvi Kapoor posted a still from the movie on Instagram, having her and the actors Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma. She captioned it, "It's going to be a hilariously-chilly ride!"
