After dressing up in an all-pink frock with matching accessories and nail paints to watch Barbie, I headed to watch Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, sporting a vibrant suit salwar adorned with a nath and black kajal, bindi and bangles to resonate with Rani's vibe. I went to see romance—the Dharma romance that is severely missing in my life—with no expectations and a lot of excitement.
Thankfully, Karan Johar didn't disappoint. The film delivered not one but two love stories, and I can't thank him enough for preserving my excitement.
To my pleasant surprise, the film explored some important societal concerns in addition to romance, a welcome change from other typical Johar films.
During my time watching the film, my mind was filled with a myriad of thoughts, and I'd like to share some of them here.
Thoughts I Was Having While Watching RARKPK
Welcome To KJo's Delhi
The film begins with Ranveer Singh's voiceover, introducing various family members and finally himself as Rocky, accompanied by a solo introduction song. But no, that seemed too usual.
Rather, I wondered, "Where is this club in Delhi where lakhs of beautiful women dance around a single man?" I haven't experienced this clubbing scene, though I've been a resident of Delhi for a while. And yes, as a spoiler, the movie features appearances from beauties like Janhvi Kapoor, Sara Ali Khan, and Ananya Panday, who also groove with Rocky in the same club.
Where's Rani Rani?
After witnessing Rocky's song, I couldn't help but eagerly await Rani's introduction song, especially considering how Alia Bhatt's Shanaya Shanaya song from Student Of The Year remains etched in my memory. I was certain that Johar would treat Shanaya, now Raani, to a special song as well. But no, and I wondered why?
But, her entry was nice too, and I already googled her blouses' back designs. Look what I found.
A Rocky For Every Rani
The way Rocky effortlessly enters Rani's life and colours it all Raani (pink) is what truly melted my heart.
Beyond his striking looks, I wondered how every woman deserves a guy with a goofy sense of humour—someone who never ceases to make an effort, surprises them with spontaneous plans, and goes to great lengths to ensure his words align with his actions.
Kashmir Is For Healing
If I were guaranteed that every time I faced heartbreak, I would find myself in the scenic views of Shimla or Kashmir, I'd probably experience heartbreak every three months. Similar to Shanaya, Rani also finds solace in the valleys of Kashmir after a heartbreak.
Not One But Two Love Stories
Johar showed us one, but he gifted us two love stories. Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi’s love story was something I was not expecting to be so fresh and soulful from the trailer, but yes, it was, and many may think he glorified extramarital love affairs with their love story, but, he has an explanation for that in the end. And that kiss of theirs will live rent-free in many heads for quite a while.
Bachchan And Azmi: Chef's kiss
From all those patriarchal families in Johar’s films, here we had a matriarchal family led by Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. Both have done wow with their roles. Those who laughed at Jaya's portrayal in only Dhindora Baje are mistaken; her expression appears similar throughout the entire film.
I literally felt, "How can someone be so cruel while watching Jaya, and how can someone be so gracious while watching Azmi?"
