Watching Rocky Aur Rani This Weekend? Here's What You Can Expect

After months of anticipation, which included short clip updates on social media, posters, teasers, trailers, song launches, and promotional events, the much-awaited film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is finally hitting theatres. 

Social media followers might recall leaked behind-the-scenes images and BTS pictures shared by the cast, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, during their filming journey. Additionally, fans may remember the Rock Rani episode from Koffee With Karan Season 7 that aired last year, contributing to the heightened excitement surrounding the film. 

Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani: What Can We Expect

The hype surrounding the film was warranted, as it is Karan Johar's comeback to directing romantic dramas, which generated nostalgic excitement for his earlier era of romance in filmmaking. Johar returns to directing after seven years with RRKPK and celebrates 25 years as a filmmaker. And not just that, Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh reunite in the film after their successful collaboration in Gully Boy, promising electrifying on-screen chemistry. Moreover, The star-studded cast also includes veteran actors Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury, and Churni Ganguly. 

Adding to the list, the movie is anticipated to have cameos by A-list Bollywood actors like Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, and Sara Ali Khan, adding to the film's star power. However, despite all the pre-release hype, what truly stole the spotlight was Bhatt's stunning saris, both during the promotions and in the film itself.

Before its release, the film not only generated considerable hype but also became embroiled in numerous controversies. Before its premiere, the film received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). However, the certification was granted with certain recommended cuts and changes. According to a report on Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC enforced alterations in the film, which included replacing the cussword 'b*******d' with 'behen di' and changing 'Bra' to 'item.' The popular rum brand Old Monk was also replaced with 'Bold Monk.'

Additionally, three dialogues were completely removed from the film, including references to Lok Sabha and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, as well as a scene in a lingerie shop that was deemed 'vulgar' and 'degrading to women.' Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is set for a theatrical debut on July 28, 2023, and a special screening was organised in Mumbai, where several Bollywood celebrities have expressed their positive reviews of the film. However, its actual box office performance remains to be witnessed, particularly at a time when the movie landscape is crowded with remarkable cinematic offerings like Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig's Barbie, which have stirred a frenzy of anticipation.
