This comes days after Rihanna made headlines in India and faced severe backlash for tweeting in support of the ongoing farmers' protest on the outskirts of the national capital, Delhi.
Social media reacts
The pop icon sparked another controversy with this satin-appearance. Posing in lavender night shorts from her lingerie line and accessorising her look with diamond bracelets, neckpieces and huge drop earrings, Rihanna can be seen covering her breasts with one hand. And, netizens are certainly not happy. Twitterati was quick to notice the huge Ganesha pendant on her neck.
"Super offensive wearing Ganesha like that. My first god, a holy sentiment to millions of people celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi every year. Sorry RiRi, you disappointed me and others," pointed out one user.

Calling her out for being disrespectful another Twitter user wrote in the comments, “Rihanna !! stop using my religion as an aesthetic !! that Ganesh figurine at the end of the chain :( is a holy and sacred figure for us Hindus." One person wrote, “can y'all please stop using our culture and religion as aesthetics I'm tired of this s**t.”
Another commented, "So out of line, using our sentimental values as an accessory, shame! @rihanna it wasn't bad enough that u were making children make fenti products, now u had to go & pull this cultural appropriation stuff."
"Nah man wtf is this, this is highly disrespectful..!!! She is wearing a Hindu God half naked. This is cultural appropriation. Our gods aren't for your aesthetics!" read a comment.
While most people were furious, on Instagram, celebrity photographer Miles Diggs added, "Jaw..... on floor," while fashion designer Hayden Williams commented, "Bad Gal in full effect!!!"
Actress Issa Rae wrote, "The boxers come with the body?" while stand up comic Carly Aquilino wrote, "Are u KIDDDDIIIIIINNNNGGGG 😍"
In 2009, Rihanna grabbed the spotlight for her Sanskrit tattoo inspired by the holy text of Bhagavad Gita.
