Galwan Says Hi: Actor Richa Chadha's Tweet Draws Flak

Richa Chadha’s tweet sparked controversy and netizens accused the actor of “mocking” the Indian Army and the officer who lost their lives in the Galwan clash.

Bollywood actor Richa Chadha’s tweet about Galwan has created a controversy. The actor was responding to a tweet on the Indian Army being ready to take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The actor replied “Galwan says hi”, referencing the clash in Ladakh’s Galwan in June 2020. The Galwan Valley clash was the deadliest confrontation between India and China in over four decades.

Northern Army Commander Lt General Upendra Dwivedi’s statement which Chadha replied to read, “We are fully prepared to take back PoK from Pakistan. We are waiting the orders from the government. We will complete the operation quickly”.

The actor’s tweet was met with severe backlash and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa described Chadha’s tweet as disgraceful. He wrote, “Insulting our armed forces is not justified”.

Shiv Sena spokesperson Anand Dubey demanded that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde and Home Minister Amit Shah took action against the “anti-national” tweet.

Dubey added, “Such actors, who make anti-national tweets should be banned”.

Earlier today, Chadha took to Twitter to apologise for her tweet. She said it was not her “intention in the least” to offend or hurt anyone.

She apologised and said, “it would sadden me if even unintentionally my words have triggered this feeling in my brothers in the Fauj”.

Chadha added that her “Nanaji (grandfather) was an illustrious part of the Indian Army” and said that he was a Lieutenant Colonel who took a bullet in the leg during the Indo-China war in the 1960s. She added that her uncle was a paratrooper and “it’s in my blood”.

Chadha wrote that a whole family is affected “when their son is martyred or even injured while saving the nation”. She signed off by saying it is an “emotive issue” for her.
