The Kerala police filed serious charges, including rape, against senior Malayalam actor Siddique, following a complaint by actor Revathy Sampath in Thiruvananthapuram. According to reports from Manorama News, the police registered the case after Revathy lodged a complaint with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating sexual allegations within the Malayalam film industry.
Actor Siddique Faces Legal Case After Revathy Sampath’s Rape Allegations
The First Information Report (FIR) states that Siddique allegedly raped Revathy at the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram back in January 2016. In addition to the rape charges, Siddique is also facing accusations of criminal intimidation for allegedly threatening Revathy.
Initially, Revathy was hesitant to take legal action against Siddique regarding the incident that occurred eight years ago. However, she recently spoke out about the matter in the media, just days after Siddique dismissed the findings of the Hema Committee report, which looked into sexual misconduct in the industry.
Details of the Alleged Incident
Revathy has alleged that Siddique subjected her to both physical and mental abuse, leading to severe emotional distress. She stated, "He assaulted me, both physically and mentally. Siddique is a criminal. The trauma I endured was immense, and it even impacted my professional life. No system supported me, and it took me a long time to find the courage to speak out. After the assault, Siddique acted as if nothing had happened, behaving as though it were normal. It seemed like everyone around was aware and accepted it as a common occurrence."
Revathy decided to file a formal complaint with the SIT on Tuesday, August 27 after being contacted by a woman officer from the team who assured her of full support. Revathy had previously accused Siddique of similar misconduct in 2019 during the MeToo movement.
In response, Siddique has filed a complaint with the Director General of Police (DGP), alleging that Revathy’s accusations are part of an agenda against him.
Siddique, a well-known actor in the Malayalam film industry with over 300 films to his credit, has also appeared in Tamil movies. The senior actor maintains his innocence, asserting that he met Revathy only in the presence of her parents.
